It is winter 1943 and the once victorious armies of the Third Reich are on the retreat, burning, slaughtering and destroying everything in their path.

Under the command of Captain Josef Kleiser, an SS unit massacres the villagers of Prokev.

But seventeen-year-old Anatole Boniak survives, and taking refuge in the hills, he conceives a deep and brooding hatred for the SS Captain.

It is an obsession that will end in a violent confrontation and colour the Russian snows with the crimson stain of blood.

Sacrifice is the fifth book in the Red Gambit series.

As the bloody days of 1945 give way to the incoming New Year, Europe finds itself in the grips of the most severe winter since records began.

Temperatures plunge, incapacitating the armies of both sides, but not enough to stop the dying. The war descends into a frozen stalemate, marked by aggressive patrolling, death from the air, and the simple struggle to stay alive in record low temperatures.

As the soldiers shiver in their foxholes, spies ply their trade, gathering information, deceiving the enemy, and obtaining knowledge that feeds the planners of both sides, who wait for the time that the snows have gone, and when they can let loose the dogs of war once more.

[The ‘Red Gambit Series’ novels are works of fiction, and deal with fictional events. Most of the characters therein are a figment of the author’s imagination. Without exception, those characters that are historical figures of fact or based upon historical figures of fact are used fictitiously, and their actions, demeanour, conversations, and characters are similarly all figments of the author’s imagination.]

P.T. Deutermann's World War II navy series began with the award-winning Pacific Glory, followed by the brilliantly reviewed Ghosts of Bungo Suido. His new novel Sentinels of Fire tells the tale of a lone destroyer, the USS Malloy, part of the Allied invasion forces attacking the island of Okinawa and the Japanese home islands.

By the spring of 1945, the once mighty Japanese fleet has been virtually destroyed, leaving Japan open to invasion. The Japanese react by dispatching hundreds of suicide bombers against the Allied fleet surrounding Okinawa. By mid-May, the Allied fleet is losing a major ship a day to murderous swarms of kamikazes streaming out of Formosa and southern Japan. The radar picket line is the first defense and early warning against these hellish formations, but the Japanese direct special attention to these lone destroyers stationed north and west of Okinawa.

One destroyer, the USS Malloy, faces an even more pressing issue when her Executive Officer Connie Miles begins to realize that the ship's much-admired Captain Pudge Tallmadge is losing his mind under the relentless pressure of the attacks. Set against the blazing gun battles created by the last desperate offensive of the Japanese, Executive Officer Miles and the ship's officers grapple with the consequences of losing their skipper's guidance — and perhaps the ship itself and everyone on board.

Vividly authentic, historically accurate, and emotionally compelling, Sentinels of Fire is military adventure at its best, by an author whose career as a Navy captain informs every page.

The summer of 1917.

Britain is losing the war against the deadly German U-boats.

After a close fought action, Commander David Smith uncovers what he believes is a deadly plot against Britain from a dying German sailor. Code-named SchwerttrZiger — or Swordbearer — it could turn the tide of the war in Germany's favour. But nobody will listen to him. He is under suspicion, and ignored. With just one one ancient destroyer, a turtle-back ‘thirty-knotter’ known as ‘Bloody Mary’, under his command, he must wage this battle on his own. Smith has to take on shore batteries and bigger, faster enemy destroyers. He has to fight the hostility of his commanding officer and is plunged into a world of espionage behind enemy lines. Through it all the mystery behind ‘Schwerttriiger’ lures him on — until he stakes his career and his life in a desperate attempt to solve it.

Ship of Force’ is an edge-of-the-seat WWI naval adventure that combines thrilling story-telling with meticulous research.

I think a 21 gun salute is required… Alan Evans has produced a cracking thriller

As they listened to the death throes of their sister ship Mako sinking in the Pacific where the waters were six miles deep, the crew of USS Eelfish suddenly came of age. They were a new breed: a brand-new fleet submarine crewed by draftees and reservists. Hidebound regular Navy officers believed they wouldn’t fight. But fight they did with reckless abandon, proving themselves on two fronts — against the Japanese at sea, and against their own Admirals, who clung to outmoded concepts of how to wage war under the sea.

This true-to-life novel moves at breathtaking speed from the invasion of Guadalcanal through the battle of the Philippine Sea and to the coast of Japan. By the end of the war, submarines such as Eelfish had so tightened the noose of naval blockade around Japan that the enemy was finished as an industrial nation, unable to fight effectively.

But American submariners paid dearly for their victories. One out of every five men who went to sea in submarines in the Pacific died in combat, the highest percentage of any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. This is a novel about their exploits, how they fought, how they loved, and how they died, written by a man who was there.

Harry Homewood was a qualified submariner before he was seventeen years old, having lied to the Navy about his age, and serving in a little "S"-boat in the old Asiatic Fleet. After Pearl Harbor he reenlisted and made eleven war patrols in the Southwest Pacific. He later became Chicago Bureau Chief for Newsweek, chief editorial writer for the Chicago Sun-Times, and for eleven years had his own weekly news program syndicated to thirty-two PBS television stations.

Surface! Surface!

The original novel of submarine warfare, available for the first time as an ebook after selling over half a million copies in its original editions.

Written with a blazing intensity, it is a stirring and compellingly authentic journey through the greatest conflict in history, drawing upon the author’s first-hand experience. Get ready for adventure!

Surface! is Fullerton’s first novel, released in 1953 and based on his own life as a submarine torpedo officer. A tale of one crew’s hardship, camaraderie and great daring on board a British submarine serving in Asian waters during the Second World War.

This is life on HMS Seahound: routine and special operations; boarding Chinese junks; creeping through minefields; engaging a Japanese cruiser; evading depth charges; returning to the port of Ceylon and the Depot Ship; and then off again into action with unerring zeal. But can they keep evading tragedy forever? And if the war ends, will they really be able to cope with life on the surface?

What will you do when the United States is invaded?

In the near future, six multinational armies of half a million Russian, North Korean, and Middle-Eastern soldiers launch a coordinated offensive, invading the United States with unparalleled precision.

They call themselves the People’s Liberating Army — the PLA.

May and Winston Sparrow live on the route that the PLA is taking on its way to sack Atlanta. The Sparrows, married for fifty years, don’t intend to flee the imminent invasion. Like many others in the tiny town of Johnsonville, Georgia, they dig in and make preparations. Winston, a structural engineer by trade, devises a simple strategy — build a false wall in their small barn and wait out the offensive inside the tiny, hidden space. They have supplies and water to last for two weeks, but to Winston and May’s horror, instead of just passing through, the PLA chooses the Sparrow property as their headquarters. Their secret sanctuary becomes an unwelcome front row seat to the atrocities of war.

When they run out of food and water, Winston has no choice but to leave the spurious safety of the barn and escape the PLA’s fortified defenses. Outside, he finds a new world — sometimes exciting and invigorating, more often brutal and devastating — where he encounters adversaries from near and far.

While he is away from May, Winston must defend himself, help those more vulnerable than he, bring closure for old friends, and in an unlikely turn of events, he even befriends an enemy soldier. When things can’t possibly get any worse, and the threat of large-scale annihilation looms, the U.S. Army presses Winston back into military service, forcing him to rely on the skills he honed during the Vietnam War, or risk losing it all.
